Zurich Insurance has signed up as a sponsor of the Spengler Cup, the oldest invitational ice hockey tournament in the world.

The Swiss insurance group will receive advertising at and around the event as part of its package, including on hoardings behind both goals, on Spengler Cup printed products and on the event’s official website. The package also includes a hospitality allocation.

The agreement was brokered by IMG Schweiz, the Swiss arm of IMG Worldwide, and covers the next two editions of the event.

“All 11 matches are live on TV in Switzerland in the three language regions and we have a strong international TV partner in Eurosport to give ice hockey fans all over Europe access to this very unique and special festival of ice hockey,” said Jurgen Krucke, the managing director of IMG Schweiz. “We are proud to welcome Zurich Insurance on board as a new official partner.”

This year’s Spengler Cup, the 87th edition of the event, will be held in Davos as usual from 26th to 31st December. Taking part in the tournament alongside the Rochester Americans from the AHL will be CSKA Moscow, Team Canada, Vitkovice Steel, Genève-Servette and the host team, Hockey Club Davos.

Zurich’s sponsorship of the event bolsters the company’s involvement in ice hockey, where it currently sponsors Switzerland’s national teams and will, from the 2014/15 season, become the presenting partner of the new Swiss Ice Hockey Cup.
