Bulgaria’s largest bank, BulBank, which is owned by UniCredit, has become the title sponsor of the PGA Professional Championship of Europe.

The competition, reinstated after a six-year absence, pits Europe’s top golfers against one another on the newly built Pravets Golf Course in Bulgaria. Players qualify for the event through their respective national championships. The competition carries a prize purse of US$85,000.

‘The PGA Professional Championship of Europe is a significant tournament and is considered to be at the pinnacle of European club professional golf,” said Ian Randell, chief executive of the PGAs of Europe, to ICTM. “The great thing about this tournament is the international element and professionals from 31 countries who will experience Pravets GC and Bulgarian golf. We are delighted to have UniCredit BulBank as our title sponsor in 2011.”

Lachezar Todorov, chief executive of TerraTour Service, which operates Pravets Golf Course, added: "TerraTour Service is proud to have UniCredit BulBank as the official sponsor of this prestigious tournament which will allow us the opportunity to showcase our fantastic golf course, the RIU Pravets hotel and the Pravets Golf & Spa Resort as a whole. We are excited to bring this event to Bulgaria for the next three years."

The competition will take place in October this year.
