Twitch, the Amazon-owned esports streaming platform, has added a new 24/7 traditional sports channel showing live games, highlights, and original programming.
Over-the-top (OTT) service Stadium, which launched in 2017, provides live and on-demand games on the likes of Pluto TV, Twitter and Roku. The service is owned by a conglomerate of entertainment and sports enterprises including Sinclair Broadcast Group, Silver Chalice, the National Hockey League (NHL), and the PGA Tour.
The deal sees Twitch increase its sports offerings, with more than 250 live games and events being shown by the new channel. In addition to broadcasting live events on its main feed, the partnership brings Twitch Stadium 2, a co-streaming channel featuring commentary and analysis, to the platform.
“As Twitch continues to expand into adjacent areas of interest surfaced from our community of gamers, physical sports are gaining traction,” said Jane Weedon, Twitch director of business development.
“Stadium effectively taps into this passion with its broad range of programming from football and basketball to competitive Frisbee, ensuring sports fans have a lot of variety to tune into 24/7.”
Stadium becomes the second 24/7 traditional sports channel on Twitch after Eleven Sports joined the platform back in March. Twitch also has rights to live National Basketball Association (NBA) G League games and National Football League (NFL) Thursday Night Football, the latter as part of the NFL’s Amazon deal.
