Swiss watchmaker Tissot has extended its sponsorship of the MotoGP World Championship for a further seven years.

The new deal, signed between Tissot and MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports before the final MotoGP race of this season last weekend in Valencia, will see Tissot remain as the official timekeeper and watch of MotoGP until 2022.

Tissot signed an initial sponsorship deal with MotoGP in 2001.

The company will continue to receive TV-visible trackside advertising, activation opportunities in on-site MotoGP hospitality areas, and a large presence on the championship's official website.

Tissot will also continue to design, manufacture and market an official MotoGP collection.

“At Dorna Sports, we are extremely proud to have extended MotoGP’s long and productive relationship with Tissot until 2022,” said Dorna Sports chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta. “It has proven to be the perfect partnership over the last 14 years, and we look forward to continue to develop and grow together until 2022.”

28-year-old Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo won his third MotoGP title with victory in this weekend's finale in Valencia.

Seven-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi would have won his first championship since 2009 with a second place finish, but he could only manage fourth.
