Pizza Pizza has agreed a deal with True North Sports & Entertainment to sponsor the Winnipeg Jets National Hockey League (NHL) team.

The Canadian pizza chain will be entitled to a retail presence at the MTS Centre, where the Jets will play their home matches in the 2011/12 NHL season, and will use the sponsorship to promote new developments in their franchising offering. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Pat Finelli, Pizza Pizza's chief marketing officer, said: "This partnership is about doing good work together to benefit fans, to have fun as a team. That is what we are all about. Plus it will surely have a positive impact on our business in the region."

Norva Ridelli , the senior vice president for sales and marketing at True North Sports & Entertainment Limited, added: "We couldn't be happier to announce our newest partnership with Pizza Pizza in our inaugural season with the Winnipeg Jets. It's an excellent addition to our current concession offerings; we're thrilled to feature this quality product in the MTS Centre."

True North Sports & Entertainment purchased the Jets in June, when they were playing as the Atlanta Thrashers, for a reported US$170 million. The team will play its first season in Canada in the Southeast Division of the NHL's Eastern Conference, before the league realigns in 2012/13 to accommodate the move.
