Srikanth Kidambi strikes US$4.9m Li Ning deal

Chinese brand seals bumper kit deals with star Indian shuttler.

Indian badminton star Srikanth Kidambi has signed a four-year partnership deal with Chinese kit supplier Li Ning worth Rs 35 crore (US$4.9 million).

The former world number one, who has been sponsored by Yonex for the past three years, returns to the Li Ning brand, which will supply Kidambi’s kit and equipment until 2023.

Kidambi became the first Indian men’s singles shuttler to reach the top of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) rankings during the Commonwealth Games last April and is the only Indian men’s player to win six Super Series titles on the badminton circuit. 

“I am honoured to be the face of Li Ning in India and globally,” Kidambi said. “I love their products and I’m really looking forward to stepping on the court with a renewed vigor to accomplish a few more goals that I have set for myself & keep bring laurels for my country.”

Li Ning is currently Team India’s official apparel partner until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where world number eight Kidambi is expected to be a medal contender.

One of the leading sports brand companies in China, Li Ning also sponsors Indonesia’s, Singapore’s, Australia’s, and China’s badminton teams.

“Srikanth is among the top badminton players in the world,” said Mahender Kapoor, director of Li Ning’s exclusive brand partner Sunlight Sports.

“Li Ning stands for quality and consistency and Srikanth fits the bill perfectly. We want to play our part in helping Srikanth achieve a lot more going forward.”
