Second tier English soccer side Sheffield United have a signed a new sponsorship deal with the Dubai-based GAC Group.

The deal with GAC will see the company’s name featured on the South Stand at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium.

According to a statement released by the club today, GAC, the largest ‘independet’ shipping agency and logistics company in the world, will deliver a unique B2B proposition through the club’s international network of clubs, which now expands across Europe, Australasia and Asia.

GAC has recently created a specialised arm of its business (GAC Sport Logistics) to deal with the highly complex and time critical demands of sports related logistics.

Mike Farnan, executive director at Sheffield United, commented: “Sheffield United is delighted to welcome such a prestigious partner as GAC to the club. This reflects Sheffield United’s aim to work alongside international brands with international pedigree. Combined with our existing international partners, such as the Malta Tourism Authority, this supports our number one objective of winning promotion back to the Premiership, whilst continuing to look at ways of expanding our global portfolio.”

Bill Hill, group vice president of GAC Logistics added: “The partnership with Sheffield United further demonstrates our commitment to developing our sports logistics division and supporting sport across the world. Sheffield United has a unique position in football of owning clubs on three different continents, and this network works very favourably with our own 350 offices worldwide. The new logistics opportunities that this, and the other areas of Sheffield United’s business, can offer GAC are considerable. We very much look forward to building a successful partnership in the years ahead.”

Although financial details were not released, the deal is believed to be worth around US$250,000 to Sheffield United.
