Scottish Rugby has announced a seven-figure extension of its kit deal with Italian sportswear brand Macron.

The six-year deal, which comes ahead of the autumn’s Rugby World Cup in Japan, will see Macron continue to supply match and training kit for the Scotland men’s, women’s, sevens and age grades rugby union sides until at least June 2026.

The tie-up, which represents a 'significant uplift' on the previous contract, includes Scotland’s two professional clubs, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby, who will continue to wear Macron kit after the conclusion of the current agreement in June 2020. The deal also extends to Fosroc academies and referees.

As part of the agreement, Macron will continue to operate both Scottish Rugby’s official store at BT Murrayfield, where Scotland play their international home games, as well as the national governing body’s ecommerce operation. The company will also handle all matchday retail activity for Scotland, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby matches.

“It is a testament to the quality of the relationship we have with Macron and the products they produce that we can form a long-term mutually beneficial relationship which has grown significantly in recent years,” said Scottish Rugby chief executive Mark Dodson.

“It provides excellent business and operational continuity for Macron to supply all our kit requirements until 2026 and I look forward to working with Gianluca [Pavanello] and his team in the years to come.”

Macron first supplied kits for Scottish Rugby in 2013, although the relationship between the two parties dates back to 2010, when the manufacturer supplied kit for Edinburgh Rugby.

Dominic McKay, Scottish Rugby’s chief operating officer, said: “We have seen significant growth in our brands of Scotland, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby in recent years. Macron have played an important role in this.

“This is in part through growth in UK and global sales for the shirts Macron have produced with us and seen an expansion of their brand across club rugby and sport in general over the period we have worked with them.”

Macron’s official designation will be official kit supplier to the Scotland national teams, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby, and official Scottish Rugby retail and online partner.

The Bologna-based brand provides kits for a number of sports teams across Europe, including Italy’s national rugby union team, Premiership Rugby’s Northampton Saints and Portuguese soccer giants Sporting Lisbon.

Gianluca Pavanello, Macron chief executive, added: “Here in Scotland we have been given the unique opportunity to develop with the union and clubs the highest level of rugby technical apparel for the modern-day athlete as well as a leisurewear and accessories range that are not only fashionable but unique technical designs of the highest level.”
