Top-tier German soccer side Schalke 04 have announced a three-year partnership with Deutsche Glasfaser.

The German telecommunications company will serve as an official sponsor of the Bundesliga outfit from 1st July until the end of the 2020/21 season.

As part of the deal, the company will became a partner of the Schalke esports division, and will help promote the team.

Deutsche Glasfaser will gain a box in Schalke’s Veltins Arena home ground, and will enjoy a presence across the team’s media activities.

The agreement will also include numerous forms of esports advertising, although specific details as well as financial terms, were not disclosed.

The news makes the company the second partner of the Schalke esports division, after AOK Nordwest became the club’s first official esports partner ahead of the 2017/18 season.

“With our new esport partner Deutsche Glasfaser, we look forward to a technological and innovative cooperation,” said Alexander Jobst, marketing director of FC Schalke 04. “Technically speaking, there is nothing better than a pure fibre optic connection to the worldwide gaming experience network.”

Uwe Nickl, chief executive of Deutsche Glasfaser, added: “Today Schalke 04 is the innovation leader in esports – and number one deserves the best leadership: The bandwidth and reaction speed of our pure fiber optic connection are simply unbeatable, so we are glad that we, as a young telecommunications company, were able to win over Schalke 04 for a long-term cooperation. FC Schalke 04 helps us to make our offer even better known nationwide.”

Schalke 04 finished second in the Bundesliga and 21 points behind league champions Bayern Munich.
