Watchmaker Rolex has been named as the new official watch partner of the French Open tennis tournament.

The multi-year deal sees the brand hold partnerships with all four Grand Slam tennis events, adding to its current agreements with the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open – the latter of which was signed in July.

Rolex has replaced fellow Swiss watchmaker Longines, which was formerly the official timekeeper of the tournament, bringing to an end a lengthy partnership that started in 2007.

Announced by the French Tennis Federation (FFT), Rolex will benefit from a large brand presence at Roland Garros. The brand has recently expanded its visibility in France as the title sponsor of the Paris Masters, which concluded last weekend.

Speaking on the new deal, Rolex director Arnaud Boetsch said: “By becoming an official partner of Roland Garros, the main tournament of the clay season, Rolex definitely strengthens its ties with world tennis.

“This new collaboration also offers us the further opportunity to promote discipline and support it with so much commitment and enthusiasm, as it has been doing for forty years.”

FFT president Bernard Giudicelli added: “Our association with this prestigious house, already a partner of the Rolex Paris Masters, takes on a whole new dimension by anchoring itself from 2019 in the heart of our famous competition.

“This long-term agreement will allow both to support the Roland-Garros brand internationally but also to serve the interests of French tennis.”

Last weekend’s Paris Masters final saw Novak Djokovic return to the top of the world rankings despite a surprise defeat in straight sets to 22-year-old Russian Karen Khachanov.
