New York Community Bank (NYCB) has become the lead sponsor of the revamped Nassau Coliseum.

The company will put its name to the Long Island, New York-based venue, the former home of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, which will reopen in April 2017 after a US$260 million renovation. The facility will now be known as the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank.

No financial terms have been released for a deal that grants NYCB 'marquee partner' status.

The venue will be the home of regular entertainment programming, boxing, and other sporting events, and an adjacent 77-acre retail and leisure plaza to be known as NYCB Live. The complex will be operated by Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, which also operates the Barclays Center in Brooklyn – the home of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Brooklyn Nets and the new home of the Islanders.

Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment has also confirmed a collection of other founding partners for the venue. Car dealership network Tri-State Ford has become the official automobile partner of the arena and of the Long Island Nets, the NBA D-League team who will play home games at the Coliseum. JetBlue will become the official airline of the venue and presenting sponsor of its concert and major event programming franchise, Long Island Show.

The Hospital for Special Surgery will be the official hospital of the Long Island Nets and the presenting sponsor of Coliseum healthy living initiatives, while National Grid will be the official energy partner of the venue. LIU Post and ticketing services provider Ticketmaster will also be founding partners, while other commercial partnerships are in place with Allstate, First Data, Long Island Marriott, Palm Bay Wine, PC Richard & Son, PepsiCo, Petro and Winter Bros Waste Systems.

“By bringing together top notch financial services and world-class entertainment, NYCB is taking a leadership role ensuring Long Island becomes an even greater place to live, work and play,” said Andrew Kaplan, Executive Vice President of Retail Products and Services at NYCB. “For a long time we have enthusiastically supported our veterans, and NYCB is especially proud that this partnership provides a lasting tribute to Long Islanders who have served our country.”

Jamie Perry, the vice president of marketing at JetBlue, added: “As 'New York's Hometown Airline', we are excited to extend our partnership with Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment. Fun is one of our core values at JetBlue, and as a founding partner of The New Coliseum we will help bring quality concerts and entertainment back to Long Island. Through our dedicated activation space we will also bring the award-winning JetBlue brand experience to life for guests at The New Coliseum.”

Tri-State Ford Dealers chairman John Billard said: “We’re proud to be supporting the renewal of the Coliseum, which will soon be home again to many great memories here in the Long Island community.”

The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank will open with a concert by Billy Joel on 5th April.

“We are proud to join with New York Community Bank, our marquee partner for The New Coliseum, which shares our commitment to excellence and to the people of Long Island,” said Mike Zavodsky, executive vice president of global partnerships for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “We would also like to welcome a dynamic list of innovative partners who see the value of aligning with the much anticipated venue. Together, we are excited to bring a world class arena to Long Island.”
