Reebok has secured a lucrative position as kit provider to the Proteas, South Africa’s national cricket team.

The sportswear company will provide kits to the country’s one-day side, currently ranked as the best in the world, and Test side, currently second best in the world, as well as the Twenty20 team. The announcement comes at the beginning of a playing schedule that sees the Proteas challenging for the World Twenty20 championship in England in June, host the ICC Champions Trophy, in September, and host to England in a three-month tour this winter.

“This Proteas side has grown phenomenally over the last few years and is now one of the best balanced and most successful national teams in the world,” said Reebok’s marketing manager Dave Turnbull. “They have the ingredients to become a dominant force in world cricket for some time, and we’re looking forward to being a part of the challenge that lies ahead.”

Gerald Majola, Cricket South Africa’s chief executive, said: “Cricket South Africa and the Proteas are committed to the pursuit of excellence and we therefore welcome having an international brand like Reebok as a kit supplier to the Proteas. The Proteas are, after all, world beaters and so it is most fitting that they play in the world’s best kit as will be the case with Reebok on board.”
