Italian public service broadcaster Rai has agreed a sub-licensing deal with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for rights to the summer and winter Olympic Games from 2026 to 2032.

Contract:

  • Rai secures free-to-air (FTA) TV and digital rights, as well as the non-exclusive radio rights, for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics
  • Agreement also covers Los Angeles 2028, Brisbane 2032 and the 2030 Winter Olympics

Context:

The deal comes after WBD and the EBU jointly secured all European media rights for the next four Games at the start of the year. That agreement now allows the EBU, which represents more than 100 public service broadcasters in Europe, to show the Olympics FTA on TV and digital platforms.

Coming next:

Rai is set to show 360 hours of the 2024 Paris Olympics, as part of a an existing agreement with WBD.
