- 1,000 hours of broadcast coverage aired live and on demand in more than 165 countries
- Collins Cup app downloaded 35,000 times
The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has confirmed that its inaugural Collins Cup in Slovakia on 28th August reached close to seven million viewers across its live and highlights content.
Gathered by research specialist YouGov Sport, the data for the new Ryder Cup-style triathlon event, which saw teams from Europe, the US and the rest of the world go head-to-head, revealed that close to 1,000 hours of broadcast coverage aired live and on demand in more than 165 countries in 22 languages, covering 400 million households.
That figure does not include digital, social media video views and primetime news coverage, which added further reach for the PTO event.
In a release announcing its broadcast reach, the PTO was keen to highlight its pan-European deal with Discovery for achieving ‘fantastic ratings’ for the live Collins Cup coverage and highlights across its Eurosport linear network and the Discovery+ streaming platform.
On the digital side, the Collins Cup app was downloaded 35,000 times, while the competition’s official site and live second-screen data tool had more than 200,000 users on event day.
In addition to the live and highlights content, the PTO also produced build-up programming and a two-part documentary, Beyond Human, produced by Noah Media Group, which has been recently nominated for a Broadcast Sport Award.
This content was distributed across the PTO’s YouTube channel, PTO athletes’ channels and distributed to the PTO’s broadcast partners, including a premiere in Europe on Eurosport. In total, the PTO’s shoulder programming generated a further three million in audience reach.
Tim Godfrey, PTO chief marketing officer, said: “We are thrilled that so many people around the world consumed the inaugural Collins Cup. Our athletes have some of the most compelling stories in sport so we are delighted to give them the platform to showcase their talents.”
