The 2022/23 Premier League season was the second-most watched ever in the US, with broadcast partner NBC Sports confirming there was a three per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in viewership.
Confirmed:
- NBC Sports averaged a total audience delivery (TAD) of 527,000 viewers per TV match window
- Nine matches averaged a TAD of at least one million viewers
- Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Manchester United on 22nd January was the most-watched Premier League match ever in the US, amassing 1.9 million viewers across NBC, Peacock and NBC Sports Digital platforms
- The Arsenal-United game also set a record for a simulstreamed Premier League match, with an average minute audience (AMA) of 510,000 viewers
- Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Manchester City on 5th February averaged 1.5 million viewers and became the second-most viewed game in US history
- Peacock live streamed four exclusive matches with more than 750,000 viewers, two of which topped 800,000 viewers (AMA)
- Peacock’s coverage of Liverpool’s draw with Arsenal on 9th April drew the league’s largest US streaming audience, averaging 833,000 viewers
- Viewers watched a record 17.7 billion live match minutes across all NBC platforms, up nine per cent on the prior record set last season
- NBC Sports Soccer accounts across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram finished 2022/23 with record consumption
- Video views on the accounts jumped 172 per cent from last year, with social media engagement increasing by 89 per cent and impressions rising 35 per cent
- The NBC Sports YouTube channel ended the season with a record of more than 230 million views (up 20 per cent) and 1.7 billion minutes watched (up 30 per cent)
Context:
In the US, NBC has shown the Premier League since 2013, with its latest six-year rights extension in 2021 worth around US$2.7 billion. Since becoming the competition’s broadcast partner, NBC has presented 47 of the 50 most-watched live Premier League matches ever in the US across all platforms.
