Event management platform OnePlan has raised US$6 million in fresh funding as it looks to expand its presence in the US market.

The investment round was led by Elysian Park Ventures, the private investment arm of the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, and equity firm Verance Capital.

OnePlan’s platform uses real-time data to make it easier to plan sporting events and make real-time changes by providing unprecedented visibility over venue capacity, the size of the site, and crowd dynamics.

Specifically, this data can be used to build digital twins – artificial intelligence (AI)-powered virtual representations – of sporting venues.

Organisers of major events can simulate crowd control scenarios to aid planning, improve accessibility to venues, and even see how changes can affect lighting and audio quality. This insight helps determine where infrastructure such as barriers, fencing, TV cameras, vehicles, teams and volunteers should be placed.

London-based OnePlan has made no secret of its intention to expand to the US, appointing former Los Angeles Clippers project and operations manager Rachel Klasey as its director of North America operations in January.

Existing customers include World Triathlon, as well as various National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) franchises. OnePlan will also create digital twins for all competition venues for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer.

The new capital builds on a US$5.3 million Series A round last April, with OnePlan being named as one of SportsPro’s sport technology ideas to invest in class of 2023.
