  • Airline joins growing sponsorship portfolio that also includes Nike, Mastercard and Budweiser

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has named Delta Air Lines as its first ever airline and travel partner.

The financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed but Molly Battin, Delta’s senior vice president of global brand marketing, described the company’s investment as “significant”.

The partnership includes fan engagement events and cobranding opportunities, while the Delta will also collaborate with the US soccer league on women’s empowerment programmes and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work alongside the league to build meaningful and empowering programs that support the athletes and reach into the communities where they play,” Battin said in a statement.

The agreement is Delta’s first major sponsorship of a women’s professional league and its first national league-wide deal.

Delta joins a growing list of NWSL sponsors that also includes Budweiser, Mastercard, Nike and Verizon, as well as Ally Financial, Deloitte, Nationwide and Voyager.

The airline has other significant investments in sport, including as the official airline of Team USA for the Paris 2024, Milan Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The company also has deals with several teams across North America’s men’s major leagues.
