The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has signed a sponsorship deal with sports apparel manufacturer Nike.
The new partnership will see sports giants Nike supplying Nigerian athletes. Under the terms of the deal, Nike will also offer generous bonuses for Nigerian athletes that excel in international events. The deal was signed in Washington DC, USA, on behalf of the AFN by its president, Chief Solomon Ogba.
Ogba said of the deal via telephone from Washington that he will provide specifications of the deal when he returns to Nigeria and assured that the deal is set to change the position of Nigerian athletics.
Ogba said of the new agreement: "We have been in this discussion for a long while, but now we can proudly announce that we have a new kitting contract with Nike. The new deal compares favourably with those that major countries of the world in athletics get because it is of international standard.”
The AFN president continued: “It's a new dawn for us and we hope we can sustain the relationship as we look to ensuring that our athletes excel so that they can reap from it."
