The National Basketball Association (NBA) has opened its largest official store outside of North America in Beijing, China.
In conjunction with Nike and Topsports, a leading Chinese sports retailer, the new 1,145 square metre megastore is split over two floors and will provide Chinese fans with authentic NBA apparel from partners such as Nike, Jordan Brand, as well heritage merchandise from Mitchell & Ness.
In an effort to engage Chinese fans, the Beijing store will also stock products inspired by the city and feature artwork from local graffiti artists.
“Our largest NBA Store outside North America underscores the NBA’s long-standing commitment to serving our fans in China,” said NBA China chief executive, Derek Chang.
“As the appetite for official NBA products continues to grow in China, this brand-new retail space will provide fans with authentic NBA gear and accessories, exclusive memorabilia and localized products that celebrate their passion for the NBA.”
Topsports deputy general manager, Tian Zhong added: “We will leverage our extensive retail experience to work closely with the NBA and Nike to provide a variety of products, good customer experience and membership service to all the NBA fans in China.”
This store opening once again demonstrates the NBA’s commitment to strengthening its hand in the Chinese market. NBA China was formed in 2008 to develop relationships between the league and the country, with 26 NBA pre-season games having been taken to the Asian country since.
