The National Basketball Association (NBA) has agreed a streaming deal with YouTube to simulcast live broadcasts from its NBA 2K League gaming series on the social video platform.

Highlights throughout the esports series’ second season will also be distributed via the official NBA 2K League YouTube channel, which was launched ahead of its inaugural campaign in 2018.

YouTube will live stream more than 230 regular-season, tournament, play-off and finals games from the 21-team format, up until the season’s conclusion on 3rd August. All regular season games are played over 18 weeks and take place at the NBA 2K League Studio in New York.

Fans will still be able to watch the NBA 2K League on Amazon-owned streaming platform Twitch, which previously held exclusive rights to show the league’s games.

The NBA’s partnership with YouTube goes back more than a decade when the NBA became the first professional sports league to partner with the platform and launch its own channel in 2005. Last month, the NBA and YouTube further expanded their relationship with the launch of the NBA’s first YouTube channel dedicated to fans in sub-Saharan Africa.

Last year, YouTube TV also became the first presenting partner of the NBA finals as well as the finals of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), which launched its own YouTube channel in 2006.

The NBA was also the first to join YouTube’s ‘Claim Your Content’ programme in 2007, and was followed by the launch of a YouTube channel for the NBA G League in 2008. To date, the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League YouTube channels have generated more than 5.6 billion combined views.
