Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka has become a brand ambassador for luxury Swiss watch brand Tag Heuer.
It is the second endorsement deal announced this month by the 23-year-old after being confirmed as the new face of French fashion house Louis Vuitton.
Osaka, a three-time Grand Slam winner, joins the likes of fellow tennis player Petra Kvitova and golfer Tommy Fleetwood on Tag Heuer’s roster of athlete ambassadors.
“I’m excited and honoured to join Tag Heuer as brand ambassador,” said Osaka, who was named among SportsPro’s ten influencers for 2021. “It’s a partnership and friendship that exemplifies our shared mindset and values. The brand’s trailblazing approach with their ‘Don’t crack under pressure’ motto speaks to the way I live my life both on and off the court.”
The new sponsorship deals with Tag Heuer and Louis Vuitton arrive on the back of an eventful 2020 for Osaka, who on her way to winning the US Open for a second time in September was widely praised for raising awareness of societal issues through her support of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
Frédéric Arnault, Tag Heuer’s chief executive, added: “We are very proud to have Naomi join the Tag Heuer family. Her athletic record and commitment to excellence are outstanding but even more impressive is her passionate spirit and drive for advocacy which is an inspiration to so many.”
Last year also saw Osaka overtake Serena Williams as the highest-paid female athlete, according to Forbes, which estimates that the world number three earned around US$34 million in 2020 from her endorsement deals with the likes of Nike, Mastercard and Nissin, among others.
