New Zealand Super Rugby franchise Canterbury Crusaders have elected a new board director at the club’s annual general meeting.

Natalie Thain will assume the role, replacing Crusaders chairman Murray Ellis in the process.

Thain previously served as director and principal of business consultancy Three-Sixty Consulting Ltd, based in Christchurch, and was a former national swimmer for Zimbabwe.

She said: “Having been a competitive athlete and now with my business background, I have a real understanding of the unique environment under which professional and high performance sport must operate, both commercially and performance wise.

“It is an honour to be appointed to this board and I look forward to making a valuable contribution by bringing my own experience and perspectives to the table.”

The Crusaders were beaten 33-32 by the New South Wales Waratahs in this year’s Super Rugby final.
