English soccer giants Manchester City have signed a deal with cashless payment company Tappit, with the tech provider becoming the Premier League club’s official events cashless payment partner.

As part of the agreement, which extends throughout Asia as well as the United Kingdom, Tappit’s systems will be in place at a variety of Manchester City events, such as live screenings, mass participation activities and fan park initiatives.

The technology assists cashless payments and is aimed at reducing queue-lengths at events, while also producing customer-based insights for the club. The current partnership will not see the club’s Etihad Stadium go cashless, however.

The reigning English domestic champions will work with Tappit to offer a variety of added-value features for fans using the platform.

Damian Willoughby, senior vice president of partnerships at City Football Group, said: “The partnership comes at a time where football and technology are more closely linked than ever before – working with Tappit will certainly help us utilise this.”

Jason Thomas, chief executive at Tappit, added: “We are committed to helping clubs deepen relationships with their supporters and Manchester City shares our vision to deliver an incredible fan experience.”

On the field, City sit top of the Premier League after eight games, with Pep Guardiola’s outfit one of three unbeaten teams.
