- Move comes after CAA Icon conducted an audit of the project
- New 18,000-seater arena expected to open in 2024
CAA Icon has taken over the project management brief for the Los Angeles Clippers’ new US$1.8 billion Intuit Dome development, replacing rival firm Legends Project Development, according to Venues Now.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise reportedly decided to bring in a new project manager after originally tasking CAA Icon, a subsidiary of sports agency CAA, to audit the project. CAA Icon will now take on the brief of overseeing the AECOM Hunt-Turner Construction joint venture, which is building the venue.
According to Venues Now, representatives from Legends were informed of the decision to end the company’s involvement following a meeting with Clippers management on 21st April.
Construction of the 18,000-seater arena in Inglewood broke ground in September 2021. The complex, due for completion in 2024, is also set to include a training facility, office space and a sports medicine centre.
The move to change project manager is unusual and CAA Icon will now be tasked with ensuring the Intuit Dome is built on time and on budget.
CAA Icon is a major player in the space, having overseen developments such as the Las Vegas Raiders’ US$1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium home in the National Football League (NFL). The firm’s recent Major League Soccer (MLS) projects including Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium and Nashville SC’s Geodis Park.
While Legends will now not complete the most expensive indoor arena project in US sports history, it has just secured a significant brief in Major League Baseball (MLB) to oversee the renovation of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Rogers Centre home.
