La Liga and Serie A offered to UK pubs with new low-cost streaming platform

Premier Sports and Screach partner to deliver live sport via cloud-based solution.

UK pay-TV broadcaster Premier Sports has joined forces with technology company Screach to offer UK pubs low-cost access to live sport.

The tie-up with Premier Sports, which has a UK rights offering that includes top-flight soccer from Spain and Italy, and Screach, a cloud-based solution allowing customers to control their TV network, claims to offer more flexible commercial terms compared to other broadcasting companies, including lower subscription costs and shorter contracts.

As well as La Liga and Serie A, pubs using the platform will be able to show Scottish cup soccer, Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Pro14 regional rugby union competition.

Screach’s technology is already in use in all Marston’s-owned pubs and other chains such as the Phoenix Pub Group. It is estimated the deal with Premier Sports offers commercial venues a significant boost to their live sport options, with 150 game slots that fall outside of broadcast windows clashing with the Premier League.

Speaking to trade publication the Morning Advertiser, Screach chief executive Robert Rawlinson revealed that content will be available via the platform from 1st November. He added that a 90-day minimum agreement with Screach to show Premier Sport would now become a 30-day rolling contract costing UK£249 per month (US$319), with discounts available by committing to a longer time-frame or signing up multiple venues.

In comparison, a Sky Sports subscription for pubs costs around UK£1,000 (US$1,284) per month.

Rawlinson also went on to confirm that the company would remove its UK£349 (US$448) installation fee for customers signing up for 12 months, and said Screach is in talks with eight sports rights holders to broaden its streaming offering to pubs.

“Showing live sport has long been an effective way for pubs to drive footfall and increase revenues, but the increasing fragmentation of sports rights has driven up complexity and cost – inflating subscription costs by around 17 per cent in the past three years alone,” said Rawlinson.

“Screach’s vision is to help pubs by giving them an integrated live streaming and venue marking platform, delivering an ever-increasing range of live sports events from multiple providers, as well as a powerful marketing tool that gives pubs payback for their investment.”

Richard Sweeney, Premier Sports chief executive, added: “Screach not only offers us and our customers a live streaming solution, but also one that helps them market live events effectively to assist the payback on the cost, increasing our customer satisfaction and customer loyalty.

“We look forward to working with Screach to continue to offer pubs a value-adding proposition as well as show existing and new content rights partners of ours how commercial premises streaming offers market growth opportunities.”

The platform promises low costs and short contracts for access to La Liga, Serie A and more live soccer.
