The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Los Angeles Clippers have partnered with augmented reality (AR) company Vertebrae to launch a fan-targeted experience.

The concept is inspired by the Moneyball Challenge, a game played on-court at the Clippers’ Staples Center on matchdays, will see fans to compete to win prizes in virtual basketball shootouts by visiting a specific page on the franchise’s official website.

Using their smartphone, fans can take part in a virtual shooting game where they have a 24-second period to score as many baskets as possible to win prizes.

As well as Clippers merchandise, fans playing the Clippers AR Moneyball Challenge can win complimentary nights at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa – the app’s presenting partner.

The grand prize winner will secure courtside seats to a Clippers game, on top of a two-night stay at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa.

Matt Paye, Clippers vice president, marketing, said: “Now, through this augmented reality experience built by Vertebrae, we are able to expand the excitement, anticipation and fun of the Agua Caliente Moneyball Challenge so that all of Clipper Nation can participate no matter where they are.”

Vince Cacace, chief executive of Vertebrae, added: “AR offers a powerful way to blend the physical and virtual worlds to drive positive association and fan engagement.”
