Personal headphone manufacturer Skullcandy has signed NBA player Kyrie Irving to a personal endorsement deal.
The Cleveland Cavaliers rookie will join the likes of NBA All-Star Kevin Durant, NBA MVP Derrick Rose, James Harden, Andre Iguodala and Deron Williams as a Skullcandy endorser.
In a release announcing the deal, Skullcandy pledged to support initiatives close to Irving's heart, such as youth basketball camps.
“Kyrie is a major addition to the Skullcandy brand," said Skullcandy's vice president of marketing and creative Nate Morley, before explaining that, "basketball has been a focus for us over the last few years, and adding a young player of Kyrie’s calibre is fantastic. We’re not only excited about what Kyrie does on the court, but even more so about the influence he has off the court. He loves music, grew up skateboarding and is very active on social media, which is a great way for us to connect with our audience. We couldn’t ask for a better partner.”
“I love the Skullcandy brand and what they’re doing to support basketball. I couldn’t be happier to partner with a brand that creates amazing products that blend lifestyle and audio, especially because music is such a big part of basketball culture,” Irving is said to have said. “Plus, I grew up skateboarding and am really looking forward to the exciting things they have planned for me and some of their top skateboarders like Eric Koston.”
