The World Surf League (WSL) has announced Kelly Slater’s Outerknown clothing brand as the title sponsor of its annual Championship Tour event in Fiji.
The three-year deal sees both the men’s and women’s competitions renamed the OK Fiji Pro ahead of this year’s edition of the event, which is scheduled for 28th May to 16th June.
The Fiji Pro was the only event on the WSL’s elite men’s Championship Tour not to have a title sponsor. Financial terms of the deal have not been released.
“We're very excited to welcome Outerknown to the WSL family and look forward to working with them to showcase the world's best surfers at one of the most incredible events on the Championship Tour,” said Beth Greve, the WSL’s recently appointed chief commercial officer.
Outerknown was founded by Slater, an 11-time WSL world champion and four-time Fiji Pro winner, and designer John Moore in 2015.
“Outerknown was built on a foundation of style, sustainability and travel,” said Moore, Outerknown’s creative director. “For us, Fiji brings together everything we stand for. It’s the ultimate destination; lush jungles, crystal clear waters, perfect waves.
“You look around and are surrounded by jaw-dropping natural beauty. There’s no better place on Earth to celebrate why we’re working so hard to protect our ocean and wild places, and we hope to inspire new fans from all around the world to explore sustainability.”
