The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR), the governing body for rugby union in Italy, has announced a new eight-year partnership with Macron.
The Bologna-based sportswear brand will serve as the official kit supplier for all of Italy’s men’s and women’s national rugby union teams until 2025.
Macron replaces German giant Adidas and adds the Azzuri to its extensive portfolio, which already includes deals with English side Northampton Saints, France’s Biarritz Olympique and the Scottish national team.
Alfredo Gavazzi, president of the FIR, said: “We are proud to be able to welcome Macron to our big family, and excited to match the jersey of our national team to a brand that, like us, is determined to grow and emerge.”
Gianluca Pavanello, Macron’s chief executive, added: “Our presence in the world of rugby is enhanced by a partnership not only important, but that fills us with pride as an Italian company to technically support the ultimate expression of Italian rugby, the national team.”
Italy’s men’s team recently returned from a two-game summer tour of the Southern Hemisphere, where they lost both matches against Fiji and Australia.
