The International Ski Federation (FIS) has entered into a cooperative agreement with Alisports, the sporting arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.

The collaboration is designed to raise the popularity of the sport in China ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Skiing's global governing body aims to increase participation in the country from its current 15 million people to 300 million.

Alisports will handle the marketing, promotion, selling and organisation of the ‘Get Into Snow Sports’ initiative. The FIS will work with its Academy and the World Academy of Sport to deliver certification systems for the programme.

Zhang Dazhong, founder of Alisports, said: “Alisports is extremely honoured to form this partnership with International Ski Federation, and is grateful for the tremendous support from the Chinese Ski Association who has aided us in this collaboration to implement the ‘Get into SnowSports’ programme.”

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics runs from 4th to 20th February, and will be followed by the Winter Paralympics from  4th to 13th March.
