Inter Miami have become the first club in Major League Soccer (MLS) to roll out their own streaming platform to air locally broadcast matches for free.

Built in collaboration with Texas-based software solutions firm PumpJack Dataworks, the over-the-top (OTT) service was agreed upon as part of Inter Miami’s local multi-year broadcast deal signed with CBS Miami in April.

As part of that arrangement, the club’s regional live match broadcasts will be made available on the platform to fans residing within a 100-mile radius of the south Florida city. Inter Miami’s CBS deal also sees select regular-season games air in primetime on MyTV33.

For fans based outside the area, an alternative stream is made available from inside the commentators’ booth. Users in 30 different countries downloaded the app to stream Inter Miami’s home 3-2 victory over Orlando City on 22nd August.

Inter Miami’s vice president of digital, Jean Manuel Jimenez, said that PumpJack has become a “key partner in executing our strategy … on building a data foundation to maximise revenue”.

Inter Miami’s home games are being held behind closed doors at their temporary Fort Lauderdale home venue while the club work towards bringing back spectators.

Their next game is an away fixture versus Nashville on 31st August, having postponed their home match against Atlanta United on 26th August amid widespread protests over the recent police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man in Wisconsin.

PumpJack, which also has deals with other US major league franchises, including the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Dallas Mavericks, has recently signed partnerships with the Williams Racing Formula One team, as well as Welsh top-flight Pro 14 rugby union club Ospreys.
