Infront Sports and Media has acquired a 51 per cent stake in Omnigon, one of the leading digital services firms within the sports and entertainment industries.
The acquisition follows a strategic partnership between the two signed in October last year, and sees Infront become the majority shareholder in Omnigon.
Igor Ulis, chief executive of Omnigon, will continue to lead the management team, while Omnigon's company structure and brand identity will remain in place as it continues to operate as a standalone entity, complementing Infront's own existing Digital Solutions division.
“Our target is to be both a thought leader and a global premium service provider for digital solutions,” said Philippe Blatter, president and chief executive of Infront. “During the initial strategic partnership with Omnigon, it became apparent that the company ideally complements the existing Wanda Sports businesses with its digital know-how and solutions. It is now my pleasure to warmly welcome all Omnigon employees to the Infront Group.”
The news follows an announcement earlier this week from Wang Jianlin, chairman of Infront owner Dalian Wanda, that he was targeting five ‘substantial’ acquisitions in the sport and entertainment sectors in 2016, to add to its purchases of Infront and the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) in 2015. Late last year those two bodies were merged to form the umbrella brand Wanda Sports.
