The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has announced that South Korean steel company Posco has become the eighth international sponsor of the 2011 World Championships in Daegu.

Posco joins TDK, Toyota, Adidas, Samsung, Seiko, Sinopec and VTB to complete the line-up of top-tier sponsors at the event, which takes place between 27th August and 4th September.

No details regarding the value of the agreement have been released.

“This is excellent news since the IAAF and Dentsu had an objective of 8 sponsors in 2011 and that is now achieved,” commented IAAF president Lamine Diack. “The success of the IAAF World Championships and our other competitions and programmes is only possible with the enthusiastic support of our partners, and the IAAF can now boast a global family of blue chip commercial allies.”

Jongtae Choi, president of Posco said, “This competition’s principles of dreams, passion, and challenge are similar to Posco’s corporate culture of creative challenge. By sponsoring this championship, Posco will also do its best to make many challenges and dreams come true.”

Posco, founded in 1968, is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers, and, headquartered in Pohang, is slightly east of Daegu where the showcase athletics event is being held.
