The Sun Life Stadium, the home ground of the University of Miami college football team and National Football League (NFL) outfit Miami Dolphins, has reportedly sold its naming rights to restaurant group Hard Rock International.

According to local media in Miami, the venue, currently undergoing a US$500 million refurbishment, will be known as the Hard Rock Stadium after its current deal with Toronto-based Sun Life Financial expired in January of this year.

Financial terms are not yet known but Miami’s Sun Sentinel suggests that similar deals are often worth more than US$10 million a year.

The news is expected to be confirmed at a press conference in the city on Wednesday.

Hard Rock Stadium will host its first event under the new name on 1st September, when the Dolphins welcome Tennessee Titans in a pre-season game.

Hard Rock will become the stadium’s fourth naming partner since it opened in 1987, following Sun Life Financial, brewing company Land Shark, and clothing brand Pro Player.

Earlier this year, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had said that a number of companies had expressed interest but that the Hard Rock name was preferred.

The Dolphins had a disappointing 2015 regular season, finishing bottom of the AFC East conference, winning just six of their 16 games.
