- GSRM lands overseas FTA, PPV and streaming rights; plans to launch international OTT service
- Zeus Sports Marketing secures betting rights on behalf of Stats Perform
- Deals signed off in time for start of Série A and Série B seasons after Covid-19 delay
The Global Sports Rights Management (GSRM) agency and US-based sports analytics firm Stats Perform have finalised their overseas media and betting video rights agreements for Brazilian club soccer’s top two leagues.
GSRM has secured the exclusive international free-to-air (FTA), pay-per-view (PPV) and streaming rights to the top-flight Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A and second-tier Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B in a tie-up that covers the sales of rights across various platforms.
In addition, the agency is also planning to offer a separate international streaming subscription service that will show all games from both competitions in all countries apart from Brazil.
GSRM’s bid was subject to a minimum guarantee payment based on international transmission rights, while its proposal also included a revenue-sharing model based on sales performance. National governing body the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) gave up any economic participation.
International rights to Brazilian club soccer were previously held by the country’s commercial broadcaster Globo between 2016 and 2018, alongside its existing domestic rights deal. An agreement was reached with the Sport Promotion, though it subsequently collapsed and forced Brazil’s clubs to revisit their international sales process.
“The main focus of our work is to increase the visibility of Brasileirão Series A and B championships abroad and to take it to a higher level of international exposure,” said GSRM chief executive Hernan Donnari. “Today there is already a great interest, not attended, for Brazilian football in markets in Asia, Latin America, North America and Europe.”
Stats Perform’s agreement, meanwhile, designates the company as the exclusive betting streaming rights and betting data provider for Brasileiro Serie A and Serie B. The multi-year partnership with the CBF was negotiated on Stats Perform’s behalf by Zeus Sports Marketing, a boutique sports marketing agency with offices in London and Singapore.
The two contracts, which run until 2023 and include 380 games from each league, were signed ahead of the 2020 Brasileiro Serie A and Brasileiro Serie B seasons, which kicked off last weekend.
Clubs had voted in favour of the agreements back in April following a lengthy ten-month tender process. However, the coronavirus pandemic further stalled proceedings, resulting in additional details having to be finalised after the start of the campaign was delayed by more than three months.
In other Brazilian soccer news, cash and carry operator Assaí Atacadista has extended its title sponsorship of the Brasileiro Série A for another three years until 2022, prolonging a relationship that started in 2018.
