JR Motorsports, the Nascar team part-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., has announced a 28-race sponsorship agreement with Great Clips Inc. for the 2013 Nationwide Series season.
No financial details were confirmed but the deal could be worth as much as US$6 million over the season, based on other multi-race Nationwide Series sponsorships.
The deal was announced as the team confirmed it has signed Kasey Kahne and Brad Sweet for the new season. Great Clips is an existing sponsor of Kahne's 2013 Hendrick Motorsports entry in the top-tier Sprint Cup.
Great Clips will sponsor an entry which will be shared by Kahne and Sweet at 27 of the 33 races this season, with Earnhardt Jr. driving one race in the company's colours as part of his six-race Nationwide programme.
The team is, however, still looking for a sponsor to fund the Kahne/Sweet car for the remaining six races.
“The last three months have been critical for the direction of JR Motorsports and the commitment we’ve made, and this partnership with Great Clips is a major step in the right direction,” said Kelley Earnhardt Miller, the general manager of JR Motorsports.
“To sign a 28-race sponsor while adding Kasey Kahne and Brad Sweet to our line-up is quite extraordinary. Our goal is still to run two full-time teams, and this helps us greatly to achieve that.”
