  • FuboTV ups monthly fee to US$65; YouTube TV also rises to US$65
  • ESPN+ aligns subscription fee with Hulu at US$5.99 a month

US streaming service FuboTV has become the latest streaming platform to increase its monthly subscription fee, joining Google’s YouTube TV and Disney’s ESPN+ in raising their standard pricing.

FuboTV, which has shifted its focus from a sport-orientated platform into more general entertainment, signalled a further change in direction when it merged with virtual entertainment company FaceBank Group back in March.

Now it is upping the price of its family bundle to US$65 a month, in a move which will also see existing subscribers currently paying the platform’s US$60 base rate automatically moved to the more expensive package.

The announcement comes after FuboTV secured a distribution agreement with Disney to carry the US media giant's news, sports and entertainment channels, including ESPN and its affiliated college sports networks. However, the platform will be losing some of its sports content having terminated its carriage deal with WarnerMedia this month.

Turner Sports' live National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB) matches will no longer be available on FuboTV.

A FuboTV spokesperson said: ‘Despite these changes, and with the upcoming launch of ESPN and Walt Disney Television, FuboTV’s sports-focused cable TV replacement will offer a market-best 43 of the top Nielsen-ranked sports, news and entertainment channels in our base package.’

FuboTV's is just the latest streaming service to hike its subscription fees in recent weeks. YouTube TV announced it is also hiking its monthly amount from US$50 to US$65 at the end of July.

Meanwhile, ESPN+, which has some 7.9 million subscribers, is increasing its monthly fee by US$1 to US$5.99 from August – the same cost as Disney's other entertainment content streaming platform, Hulu. The price point for Disney's US$12.99 a month bundled streaming package, which includes its ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+, will not be impacted.
