More than 20 soccer teams from around the world are set to appear in Fortnite through a partnership with the video game’s publisher Epic Games and the IMG agency.
The deals, which were facilitated by IMG, Fortnite’s licensing representative, will enable users to represent teams from the A-League, Bundesliga, Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, J1 League, La Liga, Major League Soccer (MLS), the Premier League, Primeira Liga, Scottish Premiership and Serie A.
Starting from 23rd January, Fortnite players will be able to choose from ten different variants of new ‘Kickoff Set’ outfits designed for the 23 participating clubs, which include Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Manchester City, West Ham United, Celtic, Rangers, Schalke, Sevilla, Sporting CP and LAFC.
In addition, users will be able to join select clubs in hosted Fortnite tournaments, while they will also have the opportunity to earn or purchase two new soccer-themed emotes, which are victory dances used during gameplay.
Commenting on the activation, Nate Nanzer, head of global partnerships at Epic Games, said soccer is “consistently one of the top sports” Fortnite players “want to see and experience” in the game.
Matthew Primack, senior vice president of licensing at IMG, added: “This is a truly international collaboration, tapping into clubs from almost every continent and offering fans the opportunity to express their passion for the beautiful game and their favourite team through the trailblazing world of Fortnite.”
The other clubs that will be featured in Fortnite are AS Roma, Atlanta United, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Cerezo Osaka, Esporte Clube Bahia, Melbourne FC, Santos, Seattle Sounders, Sydney FC, VfL Wolfsburg, Western Sydney Wanderers and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
