  • Event postponed to ensure more participants are able to attend

SRO Motorsports Group and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) have announced the postponement of the second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games until 2022.

The rescheduled event will remain at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France as planned, and will take place on 29th and 30th October 2022, pending approval by the World Motor Sport Council.

With the Motorsport Games designed to be a global celebration of international motorsport, the continuing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the number of competitors would be severely limited should the event take place in 2021.

Therefore, following the first edition of the games in 2019, SRO Motorsports Group and the FIA have chosen to postpone the 2022 event to maintain its universality.

The FIA Motorsport Games is a multidisciplinary event that welcomes competitors from around the world, competing under their own flag. The first edition of the games in 2019 featured events such as GT Cup, Touring Car Cup, F4 Cup, Drifting Cup, Karting Slalom Cup and Digital Cup.

“This postponement is an unavoidable decision considering the travel difficulties the world is still going through,” said FIA president Jean Todt.

“The FIA Motorsport Games is an exceptional opportunity for the entire motor sport family to come together, unite and share the passion we all have for the sport, and we are already looking forward to seeing the ASNs (National Sporting Authorities) and the teams in 2022.”

“The opportunity to gather competitors from across the globe is a vital component of the FIA Motorsport Games,” added Stephane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group founder and chief executive.

“As this will not be possible in 2021, I believe that it is the correct decision to reschedule for next year. While disappointing, the decision demonstrates our commitment to staging a truly global event that does justice to the FIA Motorsport Games philosophy.

“We will continue working towards the second edition and look forward to sharing more news regarding a digital project for 2021.”

The games will take place in October 2022.
