The Football Federation of Australia (FFA) and Westfield have sealed a two-year extension to the existing naming rights deal for the Matildas, the Australian women’s national soccer team, and the W-League, the top flight for domestic women’s soccer.

The deal was brokered between the FFA and Westfield’s new owner, Scentre Group. The FFA and Westfield have been partners since 2008 during which domestic women’s soccer has grown exponentially.

The deal will see the women’s team remain as the Westfield Matildas, plus the Westfield Young Matildas and Westfield Junior Matildas. The Westfield W-League moniker will also stay in place through to 2021.

“We are very excited that Westfield will continue supporting women’s football in Australia and we look forward to working closely with everyone at Scentre Group as we seek to innovate and continue to grow the game in Australia,” said David Gallop, chief executive of the FFA.

Scentre Group chief executive, Peter Allen, added: “The sponsorship connects our communities with the sport they love through memorable player experiences in our living centres and exclusive opportunities at Westfield Matildas matches.

“I would encourage other business leaders to get involved and foster the continued growth of women’s sport in this country.”

For the Fifa Women’s World Cup this summer the Matildas find themselves in a group with Brazil, Italy and Jamaica, with former Australian men’s player Ante Milicic managing the side.
