The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has confirmed the Finnish city of Tampere as one of the group stage hosts for EuroBasket 2025.
Confirmed:
- Next edition of continental basketball tournament will be staged across Finland, Latvia, Poland and Cyprus
- Tampere’s Nokia Arena will be one of four host venues for the EuroBasket group stage
Context:
EuroBasket heads to Finland in 2025 after the country’s capital Helsinki last hosted the group stage of the tournament in 2017. Tampere and Helsinki previously co-hosted the championships in 1967.
Comment:
“In recent years, Tampere has shown that it’s capable of organising high-quality international events,” said Ari Tammivaara, event director of the Finnish local organising committee.
“[The Nokia Arena] is conveniently located in the center of the city, built basically on top of the train station; providing great logistical opportunities to set up a basketball festival for whole Finland.”
Coming next:
With Riga and Limassol are also confirmed as co-host cities, with Poland’s designated location the next to be approved by the Fiba Europe board on 17th March.
