England v Croatia sees record 3.9m stream game on BBC iPlayer

TV viewership for Euro 2020 match peaks at 11.6m, resulting in audience share of 79.2%.

England’s 1-0 win over Croatia in their opening match of the Uefa European Championship was streamed 3.9 million times on BBC iPlayer, a record audience for the UK public broadcaster’s streaming service.

The game, which took place at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday, was also streamed 600,000 times on BBC Sport online, meaning the match was streamed 4.5 million times on BBC iPlayer and online.

On linear television, the BBC’s coverage achieved an average audience of 10.2 million, peaking at 11.6 million and pulling in a 79.2 per cent share of available viewers.

Having won a European Championship opener for the first time courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s winner, England return to Wembley on 18th June for their highly anticipated clash against Scotland. The Scots, who are playing in their first major tournament since 1998, suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Czech Republic on Monday.
