Eleven Sports launches UK Amazon Fire TV Stick and Android TV apps

Platforms for Samsung Smart TVs set to follow as OTT service fights on.

Eleven Sports’ UK over-the-top (OTT) streaming service has launched apps for Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and Android TVs.

The user interface for each app is optimised for TV and will offer Eleven’s content in HD 1080p resolution, with platforms for Samsung Smart TVs also coming soon, according to the company.

Previously Eleven Sports was only available via Google Chromecast.

The Eleven Sports apps for Amazon Fire TV Stick and Android TVs are available to download from the Google Play and Amazon app stores, providing new options for subscribers wishing to stream the service’s coverage of La Liga, Spain’s top flight soccer league, via TVs.

“The launch of these user friendly, high quality apps for Amazon Fire TV stick, Android TVs and Samsung Smart TVs ensure that Eleven Sports is easier to watch and more accessible than ever for football fans,” said Marc Watson, Eleven executive chairman and chief executive.

“This development also gives fans in the UK and Ireland even more ways to watch wall-to-wall La Liga action, including an enthralling El Clasico double header, on TV.”

The news demonstrates Eleven Sports desire to remain in the UK despite enduring a less than successful launch year.

Last month the company handed over its rights to Italian soccer’s Serie A and Dutch soccer’s Eredivisie after ending its partnership with IMG. That move came after the network was forced to end its deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after failing to secure a linear carriage deal.

Eleven has asserted that it will continue to show live La Liga coverage in the UK and Ireland until the end of the season with the intention of continuing beyond that.
