The National Football League (NFL) Thursday Night Football (TNF) broadcast of the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Minnesota Vikings averaged 15.1 million viewers on Amazon Prime Video.
Confirmed:
- Viewership up 16 per cent on last year’s opening TNF game
- Broadcast reached a peak audience of 17 million
- Game was up 15 per cent among 18 to 49 year olds and 17 per cent among 18 to 34 year olds
Context:
This was the largest audience Amazon has gained for TNF since its coverage began last season. The 15.1 million viewership figure came from Nielsen’s panel-only national TV service, following the analytics firm’s reversal on its decision to incorporate first-party data from Amazon into its audience ratings.
Amazon said that across all media platforms the game averaged 16.6 million viewers, once adding its first-party data accounting for connected TV devices streaming the game.
Comment:
“We’re so excited to have kicked off our second season of exclusive TNF coverage by setting new all-time audience records,” said Jay Marine, vice president, global head of sports, Amazon.
“Building on last year’s success, our team worked tirelessly this offseason to raise the bar and enhance the viewing experience even further, so to see this kind of response and turnout from fans is very gratifying.”
Coming next:
Amazon will next show the TNF clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants on 21st September.
