- STS’ partnership with Bundesliga to last for initial five years
- Pact includes relegation playoffs, Super Cup fixtures and DFB competitions
Sportec Solutions (STS), the joint venture between the German Football League (DFL) and technology company Deltatre, has acquired goal-line technology (GLT) and video assistant referee (VAR) solutions provider Vieww.
Following the acquisition, sports technology firm STS, which is majority owned by Deltatre, has also been named as the new officiating technology partner for German soccer’s top-flight Bundesliga and second tier Bundesliga 2.
The five-year agreement for the two leagues, which begins from the 2022/23 season, will see STS use Vieww technology for all games, including relegation playoffs and Super Cup fixtures, as well as German Football Association (DFB) competitions.
Vieww’s offering utilises advanced smart camera technology, continuously synchronised to a microsecond. In addition to fully automatic goal detection, all cameras provide 200 high definition (HD) images per second for analysis and verification of critical goal area scenes.
STS stated that the majority acquisition of Vieww will allow global sports federations to benefit from continued investment into, and development of, a ‘cutting-edge and comprehensive’ video officiating system. There will also be future integration between Vieww’s officiating services and camera technology, and STS’ data capture and analysis ecosystem.
In addition, STS and Vieww will tap into Deltatre’s technological expertise to work in partnership to expand the product offering. The new partners have said they will focus on developing ‘innovative, engaging’ solutions around officiating, as well as future-proofing leagues’ owned data and video ecosystems.
“We are delighted to integrate Vieww’s expert team and market-leading technology into the Sportec Solutions organisation,” said Hendrik Weber, manging director of STS.
“The opportunities afforded by a fully integrated data and officiating ecosystem, coupled with Deltatre’s fan engagement expertise, represent a significant and exciting evolution in our proposition for leagues and federations.”
