Sports streaming company DAZN is launching a linear channel in the UK and Ireland on Sky.

Confirmed:

  • ‘DAZN 1’ to go live on 23rd March
  • 24/7 offering available in UK and Ireland via Sky channel 429
  • Customers must be signed up separately to Sky, with DAZN 1 subscription to cost UK£99 (US$120) per year or UK£9.99 (US$12.13) per month
  • Subscription grants access to entire DAZN service via DAZN app

Context:

DAZN launched in the UK in December 2020 but this is the first time its service has been made available in the country via linear television. By going down the traditional broadcasting route, DAZN will want the extra accessibility to translate into more subscribers as it bids to further establish itself in its home market.

For those that do sign up via Sky, they will have access to a DAZN live schedule that includes 50 boxing fights a year, as well as the Professional Fighters League (PFL), the Uefa Women’s Champions League and Red Bull TV.

Comment:

“Getting DAZN widely distributed is a priority for us as it delivers our great and growing array of content to more and more fans,” said Shay Segev, chief executive of DAZN Group.

“We have ambitious, long-term and strategic plans for the UK market. The more people get to know DAZN and what we offer, not just in terms of rights but the full range of digital, interactive and sports entertainment we are developing, the better.”

Coming next:

With former boxing heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua returning to the UK for his bout against Jermaine Franklin on 1st April, DAZN will be banking on the Londoner’s appeal to help bring in a new wave of subscribers to its platform. Joshua himself has an equity stake in DAZN as part of his multi-fight contract with the company.
