Over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform DAZN has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup in six countries worldwide.

The four-year deal will see DAZN become the exclusive home of European rugby in Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Japan.

DAZN will offer live and on-demand coverage from the 2018/19 season, showing 70 matches across the two competitions per year, with matches from every round of the Heineken Cup as well as selected games from the Challenge Cup – including every game from the quarter-final stage onwards.

DAZN Group chief commercial officer, Jacopo Tonoli, said: “DAZN is thriving as a better and fairer way to watch the best sport, anytime, on any device – and making more premium tournaments such as the Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup available to watch at an affordable price is at the heart of our vision.”

Director general of governing body European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR), Vincent Gaillard, added: “This partnership with an innovative streaming provider of sport in DAZN is excellent news for fans across these different territories.

“As European club rugby goes from strength to strength, so access to the live action also improves and adds a high-quality viewing experience to the best possible on-field product.”

Both competitions start later this week, and add to DAZN’s rugby portfolio which also includes the Six Nations and Premiership Rugby in various territories.
