New numbers released by social media giant Twitter have revealed that esports related conversations jumped 71 per cent as the coronavirus pandemic took hold in the second half of March compared to the month’s first two weeks.
Additionally, figures published by Rishi Chadha, Twitter’s head of gaming content partnerships, showed a 38 per cent overall increase in unique authors in the gaming space, whilst the US saw an 89 per cent increase in conversation and a 50 per cent increase in unique authors.
Chadha also revealed that FaZe Clan, which recently launched a weekly #Fight2Fund pro-am charity gaming tournament, ranked as the most discussed esports organisation over the past month.
However, Overwatch suffered as the coronavirus pandemic saw its franchise esports competition pause briefly before relaunching online on 21st March. The title fell to ninth in terms of esports related discussion topics over the last 30 days.
