Drag racer Clay Millican has secured a sponsorship agreement with auto parts store Parts Plus.

The new agreement sees Parts Plus serve as primary sponsor of Millican and his dragster for 12 races during the 2011 National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

Millican said of the deal: “This announcement by Parts Plus is one of the most exciting things we’ve seen in a long time. It is awesome that they chose our team to get into drag racing for the first time in their company history and they are a hometown company.

He continued: “Our team has been together for a long time, and Mark and Lauren have hung in there with us. We only did a couple of races last year, but now we’ve been able to sign on with Parts Plus. I am so excited. I look forward to working with them for many years to come.”

As part of the deal, the Parts Plus logo will adorn the top and sides of Millican’s dragster along with the company’s orange and red colours which will be displayed over the car starting in Gainesville this weekend during NHRA Gatornationals. In addition, Parts Plus will receive exposure as large company logos and colours will decorate the team’s transporter, vans and race uniforms. Logos of many of Parts Plus’ manufacturer partners are to be included on the dragster as associate sponsors.

Mike Lambert, president of the Automotive Distribution Network said: “For 12 events this season, Parts Plus will team with MPE Motorsports as the primary sponsor of Clay Millican. Clay’s racing success is complemented by his appearance as the host of shows on Speed TV and MTV2, making him one of the most-recognised faces in the sport. This targeted exposure for our brand will be amazing as the Parts Plus dragster burns rubber down NHRA dragstrips nationwide.”

As an added feature, race days will see Parts Plus host hospitality events featuring appearances by Millican and providing promotional tie-in opportunities for local Parts Plus auto stores. No financial details of the deal have been released.

Team owner Mark Pickens said: “We are excited to enter into this partnership, especially when it is with a company from our hometown. We want to build a long and lasting relationship. I think it’s really going to be a great combination.”

Millican added: “Racing is my passion and what I love to do, but it’s important on the business side to secure sponsors like Parts Plus and their vendor partners. I will be an asset to Parts Plus and their vendors both on and off the track. It’s my goal to continue winning and for all the manufacturers involved to sell a lot of parts and for Parts Plus to remain a household name.”
