Migu, a subsidiary of Chinese telecommunications group China Mobile, has sub-licensed rights to air live and on-demand coverage of Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022 and the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup.
The streaming platform will share digital coverage of the events with state-owned broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV), with whom it has also struck a separate deal to show next summer’s Uefa Euro 2020 soccer tournament.
Acquisition of the rights continues Migu’s recent investments in sports content. Last month, the company signed a four-year deal with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) having previously agreed a five-year domestic rights contract with the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
In 2018, Migu struck a similar sub-licensing deal with CCTV for rights to that year’s Fifa World Cup in Russia.
